Close up on The House of Satin Topaz Lingerie Set.
“I love summer because you can go wild with pretty pastels and bold colors.”
As I write this new column, the first day of summer is here and I couldn’t think of a better editorial to kick it all off. I love summer because you can go wild with pretty pastels and bold colors.
Some of my most popular posts on Instagram are either extremely vampy (wearing all black) or bubblegum cute. And I love the fact that both sides of my personality are totally embraced. I used to question if one look would be more accepted than the other and now it really doesn’t really matter to me anymore, as I just go with my instincts. Something I am constantly reminded of through this personal journey as a model and content creator, is to do what I want to do. That’s what makes me the happiest. And when I get bored doing too many vampy looks in a row, I love showing a more playful or even more romantic side of my personality in my shoots. I feel like each look is definitely an extension of me.
For Release your Inner Pinup (Lesson 7), I teamed up with House of Satin, the independent British label that hand-makes vintage lingerie. I was charmed by the fact that they are part of a small group of British companies that have been established since 1948. It is something that I cherish and respect as I love to collaborate with brands that have a long history.
I was especially impressed with the craftsmanship of every lingerie piece they sent to me.
House of Satin Topaz Lingerie Set paired with Long Gone Shoes and Lola Ramona train case.
Today, I am introducing The Satin Gems set in a vibrant Topaz color that includes a classic wireless free bra (£32.50), the mini briefs (£17.50) and the suspender girdle (£47). I was also sent full briefs (£29.50) and an additional suspender belt (£35) that aren’t pictured here. The brand offers five different styles in this colorway and I love that they do that. Some women prefer briefs, I know I personally do, but for this look I went with the mini briefs as they paired so well with the suspender girdle.
To complete this pin up perfect look I added matching Topaz stockings that are great for my plus size gams. I scored those on eBay and I couldn’t be happier with the color.
I added my vintage cat-eye sunglasses, my silver lame Long Gone Shoes Springalators, a train case purse by Lola Ramona and voila. I was really impressed with the fit of every piece that was sent to me, as everything is pretty stretchy, I can’t recommend this brand enough if you are curvy or plus size like me. As for the support of the bra, I feel that this style looks really great on and for a wire free bra I feel pretty supported. However, this is not the kind of bra that I would choose to wear on the day to day basis. If you are really busty as I am, the bra will give you good support, but you can definitely tell that it will be different from your regular over wired bra.
“I was especially impressed with the craftsmanship of every lingerie piece [House of Satin] sent to me.”
I decided to call this column: “Release Your Inner Pin Up” because that’s what this shoot really evokes to me. The pretty pastel blues and pinks, the feel that you are soaking it up at a fun mid-century location in Southern California. I feel like this set is perfect for a fun photo play date and that’s exactly what happened when I wore it.
House of Satin offers a size guide on their website to help you determine the best fit and it was pretty accurate to me.
I wear a size 38F in the bust, UK size 18 for the panties and garter belt. And again the blue stockings are plus size ones I scored on eBay.
The other styles that caught my attention were the Foundation Lace waist cincher and the Foundation Lace Corselette. It looks like the perfect lingerie to wear underneath that tight pencil skirt and blouse, à la Mad Men. I also own the Amber version of the lingerie set I just reviewed that I cannot wait to shoot in the desert.
I strongly recommend that you visit their website as they create beautifully handmade lingerie that is a real throwback to the aesthetic and quality of the old days. I personally look forward to adding more pieces from this brand to join my ever growing lingerie collection.
And remember to always own who you are and celebrate your curves, I know I do.
Wishing everyone a Happy Summer!
